Think Twice Before Hopping On These Kitchen Appliance Trends
By ASHLEY WHITE
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is losing popularity due to its high maintenance and sterile feel. Interior designer Satsha Lopez-Jaimes says it can make the space feel uninviting.
To upgrade your space, she advises mixing "stainless steel appliances with other finishes like copper or custom paneling to create a balanced and visually appealing kitchen."
Single-Serve Coffee
Often criticized by coffee aficionados for their stale, watery taste and not enough coffee, these coffee makers are falling out of favor in the kitchen.
In addition to the lack of fresh coffee, the pods contribute significantly to environmental waste. A French press, pour-over, or drip coffee maker is a better alternative.
Electric Stovetop
These stovetops are not an ideal choice as they take longer to heat cookware. The glass surface needs to get hot first, and the burners take longer to cool down.
Instead, consider an induction stovetop. It has coils below the glass surface that transmit pulses to the cookware, heating food faster and being more energy efficient.
Slow Cookers
Casey Barber, a food writer, shares that slow cookers take longer to cook, produce food that doesn't taste as good, and aren't as convenient as often advertised.
Instead, she suggests using a Dutch oven for slow cooking. It allows you to braise on the stove or in the oven, and is ideal for those who prefer using cast iron pans.
Conventional Fridge
Top- and bottom-freezer refrigerators often lack pull-out drawers, require bending to access items, and lack features like water dispensers.
On the other hand, French door fridges offer increased versatility, space, and a sleek design. They also come with perks like built-in ice makers and temperature-controlled zones.
