This Beautiful Flower Is The Secret To A Thriving Edible Garden
By ROCHELLE HEATH-HARRIS
An excellent companion plant in vegetable patches, cosmos are the secret to a thriving edible garden, particularly for those who practice organic farming.
They are particularly adept at drawing in beneficial insects such as bees, butterflies, ladybugs, monarch chrysalises, lacewings, tachinid flies, hoverflies, and parasitic wasps.
These insects help with pollination and feed on detrimental pests like aphids, thrips, scales, tomato hornworms, and corn earworms, reducing the need for chemical interventions.
As a result, when vegetables like tomatoes, corn, pumpkins, squashes, cucumbers, zucchini, strawberries, and beets are planted with the cosmos, they often see an increase in yield.
While these beautiful flowers are hardy and can flourish in challenging conditions, it's advised to buy those grown from organic and open-pollinated seeds for the
best results.
