According to the University of Missouri, some compounds in cucumbers (possibly cucurbitacins) deter silverfish by making the environment unpleasant and disorienting for them.
To utilize this hack, place cucumber slices and peels in damp and secluded spots like basements, bathrooms, under kitchen sinks, and other areas prone to silverfish activity.
Since the cucumber's repellent properties diminish as it dries out and loses its scent, it's crucial to replace the slices and peels every few days for sustained effectiveness.
Moreover, reducing moisture in your home by using dehumidifiers, fixing leaks, ensuring good ventilation, and regularly cleaning and reducing clutter can also help keep them away.
