Getting rid of fruit flies in your home is a difficult task. Eliminate them before they appear by washing your produce, especially bananas, when you get home from the store.
Washing bananas is essential to prevent fruit flies, as these pests will lay their eggs on the peel. The eggs then develop into larvae that can lead to an infestation within days.
TikTok user @thatcleanhome simply rinses bananas with water, but you can take it a step further by using a solution of one part vinegar to three parts water.
Soak bananas in this solution for 30 seconds before rinsing thoroughly under running water. Pat them dry to remove any existing eggs or larvae from the peel’s surface.
