Use the proper nap roller cover for the job, preferably one with a longer nap. Let the roller sit two minutes in the roller pan so the paint can soak into every fiber.
Take your time, paint liberally and firmly, and work away from the completed area. Go over each section a few times, paying close attention to the ceiling and corners.
