Tips & Tricks For A Clean & Fresh-Smelling Garage
By EMILY MENDEZ
Garage floors are constantly exposed to all manners of grime. As such, they should be deep cleaned yearly, starting by preparing the space before thoroughly washing every crevice.
Ensure you have rubber gloves, a respirator, and safety goggles when handling strong solvents. Then, begin by completely clearing your floor of tools, appliances, and trash.
Sweep or vacuum the floor before tackling any oil stains using a degreaser. For rust stains, apply a mix of hot water and trisodium phosphate to the area, or use a CLR cleaner.
Next, mix 2 teaspoons of Dawn detergent with 1 gallon of water, spread the solution using a pressure washer or a mop, let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes, then rinse it off with water.
Allow your floor to completely dry before moving your equipment back into the garage to prevent mold growth. Leaving the door open allows air to circulate, speeding up the process.
