Top 3 Ways To Make Your Basement Feel Larger
By V BAWA
Your basement can take on various functions and provide you with extra space for a private relaxation room or for stuff that doesn’t have a specific place. Whether your basement is small, unfinished, or only used for storage, here are a few creative ways to make the room feel more spacious.
Paint
Light paint colors like whites, soft grays, and shades of cream will make a room feel more open and airy while providing indirect lighting. Family Handyman recommends painting the ceiling a darker color and the trim a lighter shade than the wall to create the illusion of a larger space.
Lighting
If you have windows, take advantage of them by trimming any bushes that could be covering them, cleaning out the debris, and opening them to get proper airflow. Add lighting fixtures such as recessed lighting that will make the room glow without taking up space.
Décor
Sliding glass doors can transform your basement as they bring in natural light, making the room feel more spacious. Mirrors are also great décor, and if you have a window, lean a mirror opposite it to reflect the light coming in to make the basement feel more open and inviting.
