Try This Ceiling Design Trend For A Unique Interior
By KRISTY BOWEN
Ceilings are often overlooked in design trends, but interior designers are recognizing how much a ceiling can impact a room and using wallpaper to create dramatic visual effects.
A wallpapered ceiling adds visual interest, draws the eye up, and makes the room feel more expansive, which is why HGTV and Magnolia Network's Joanna Gaines uses it for upgrades.
The ceiling becomes a dynamic focal point that can bring "disparate elements together, and make the room look cohesive," Sallie Lord of Greyhunt Interiors tells Northern Virginia.
Wallpaper can make a lower ceiling feel taller and bring a vaulted ceiling down for a cozier feel. The trick, according to Lord, is balancing scale, proportion, and pattern.
Wallpaper works well in rooms with a defined border, like molding. In smaller rooms with lower ceilings, use patterns that are less obtrusive and don’t have a dedicated direction.
Avoid using wallpaper on textured or paneled ceilings, as you may have to smooth the surface first, and humidity in bathrooms or kitchens can cause wallpaper to peel or get moldy.
