Try This Simple Hack To Make Your IKEA Floating Shelves Even Sturdier
By JACQUELINE DELIBES
A downside of floating shelves is that things can easily fall off and break due to their open design. Luckily, TikTok user @erin_dittmer has a hack that can help solve the issue.
Repurpose IKEA pot rails by attaching them to the front of your floating shelves to prevent accidents. @erin_dittmer used IKEA’s 23.5-inch HULTARP rail for this purpose.
While most open shelving ranges from 36 to 54 inches and most of IKEA’s pot rails are shorter in length, you can compensate for it by cleverly arranging the items on your shelf.
Simply position the rails at the center of the shelf’s front edge and securely attach each pot rail, using the correct screws for the thickness of your shelf and a power drill.
