Two Common Household Items That Can Fight Oil Stains On Laundry
By EZEKIEL MAINA
Dealing with pesky oil stains on clothes is a universal struggle, often caused by unsuspecting encounters with everyday food items.
Enter hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and baking soda, the unsung champions in many households, offering a cost-effective and eco-friendly solution.
The oxidizing power of hydrogen peroxide and the oil-absorbing nature of baking soda create a fizzing miracle, lifting oil stains from fabric.
Start by blotting the stain with a dry cloth. Then, gently work a small amount of dish soap into the spot with a sponge, let it soak, and rinse it under cold or warm water.
If the stain persists, lay your garment flat, with the stained face upward. Lightly pour H2O2 onto the stain and sprinkle baking soda over the moistened section.
Once the mixture starts fizzing, gently scrub the stain with a toothbrush. Let it sit for 30 to 60 minutes, then send your garment through a regular washing cycle.
Exercise caution when using hydrogen peroxide and test the mixture on hidden spots before a full application. Also, be sure to hang dry your clothes.
Avoid risky combinations like hydrogen peroxide and vinegar or bleach. For oil stain removal, consider alternatives like cornstarch, white vinegar, or lemon juice.
