Upgrades Unsellable Houses Suggest You Make Before Selling Your Home

Lindsay Lamb and Leslie Davis from HGTV’s "Unsellable Homes" say the kitchen should have updated countertops and appliances and fresh paint on the walls and cabinets.
Use neutral paint on the cabinets and the walls, then add eco-friendly, sleek appliances, and an easy-to-clean countertop like stainless steel, recycled glass, or quartz.
Front Door
Since this is the first thing people see, Lamb and Davis suggest a solid front door. A new door isn’t essential, as a restored old door with all its history is gorgeous.
A wooden door can be painted black, brown, or gray, or even stained, and you can paint metal doors, but fix them first if dented or scratched. Fix air leaks or sealing issues, too.
Declutter
Buyers don’t want to see your stuff, so take down photos and reduce clutter like papers, extra bedding, and clothing stuffed into closets. A filled garage is a no-no.
Adhere to the guidelines of a pre-set plan, like the KonMari Method, to keep you on track if you feel overwhelmed. You can donate what you declutter, throw it away, or sell it.
Repainting
"Freshen up your home's interiors with neutral colors," Lamb says. "This gives [it] an updated look and lets potential buyers more easily imagine the space as their own."
Make your home as neutral as possible so others can have an easier idea of what it would be like for them to live there instead of you. White is a classic choice for this.
Floors
If your carpet is old, Lamb says, "Instead of simply replacing [it] […], try luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring [...] in high-traffic areas like the entryway, living room."
"If possible, try refinishing your hardwood floors to restore that original beauty. Otherwise, it might be worth the investment to add LVP flooring here, too!" she concludes.
