Use This Household Essential To Refresh Your Stinky Trash Cans
By D.G. SCIORTINO
Garbage cans can be a prime area for bacteria growth, mold, and bugs. Luckily, there's one cleaning agent that works especially well for cleaning all that gunk: hydrogen peroxide.
Hydrogen peroxide is a disinfectant that's also used as an antiseptic. Its cleaning power comes from its oxygen, which oxidizes to destroy germs, fungi, bacteria, and viruses.
This means it can destroy harmful bacteria like E. coli., salmonella, and listeria. For best results, use a medical-grade hydrogen peroxide that's 3% peroxide and 97% water.
In a well-ventilated area, put gloves on and wet your garbage can generously inside and outside. Let it sit for at least 25 minutes before rinsing it with hot water.
