We Tested WD-40 Against PB Blaster On Tough Bolts And Picked
A Winner
By RON BAKER
To determine the most effective penetrating oil, House Digest compared PB Blaster and WD-40. The former enjoys a devoted fan base, while the latter is known for its versatility.
What matters, though, is how they perform in tasks they claim to excel at, so the test focused on their ability to loosen rusty bolts, dissolve rust, and prevent its recurrence.
The experiment used PB Blaster and WD-40 on rusty lug nuts, submerged bolts, and a test rig to measure penetration speed. Surprisingly, both products yielded similar results.
Despite the inconclusive and underwhelming findings, previous tests by others online found that Liquid Wrench outperformed both WD-40 and PB Blaster in unsticking rusted bolts.
For those stocking the chemical cabinet of a workshop with limited funds, House Digest recommends WD-40 for its myriad uses and reputation and Liquid Wrench for all things rusty.
