What It Could Mean If Something Smells Burned In Your House
By COURTNEY ISOM
A sudden burning aroma doesn't always mean it's something life-threatening, but try to identify the source as soon as possible. With unknown burning scents, your eyes, nose, and throat can become irritated, and toxins can be consumed and threaten your lungs and respiratory system.
Burning smells can be caused due to malfunctioning wiring, appliances, or overheating, or they can arise from space heaters, furnaces, and air conditioners. This happens for several reasons like dust buildup, being overheated, or flammable objects closely nearby.
Household appliances such as toasters, dishwashers, refrigerators, and dryers can also cause this odor if overheated. If you have incorrectly installed wires, overcharged circuits, blocked air filters, or damaged wiring, this too can cause a burning smell.
