What Load Of Wash You Should Be Using Hot Water For
By ALEXANDRA RODRIGUEZ
While using cold water to wash clothes is less damaging to fabrics and helps conserve energy, you are better off using warm or hot water to wash white or lighter colored clothing.
A hotter temperature removes dirt and stains from your clothes better than cold water, but avoid using hot water with darker clothing since it can cause the colors to fade faster.
Besides keeping white clothing white, hot water also gets rid of germs, viruses, and bacteria. Turning up the machine's heat to 140 degrees Fahrenheit should do the trick.
Hot water can cause certain kinds of fabric to shrink, but you can safely use warm water for nylon, spandex, jeans, and polyester. You can even use hot water for cotton clothing.
