What Really Happens When You Use Oregano To Get Rid Of Mice And Rats
By MARCO ROSSI
While some anecdotal reports suggest that oregano might help you get rid of mice and rats from your home, there is a lack of scientific evidence to back up this claim.
Using oregano as a deterrent stems from a theory that the pungent smell of the herb will overwhelm the rodents’ senses, encouraging them to leave or avoid the area.
This method has significant limitations, however. Mice and rats are smart creatures; they can easily avoid the treated areas and find other parts of the house or yard to inhabit.
Plus, this can be a hit-or-miss hack. The scent of oregano, whether used in the form of essential oil or fresh herbs, tends to dissipate quickly, requiring frequent reapplications.
While this method likely won't get rid of mice or rats, it might be helpful in preventing them from entering the house, especially if placed near their suspected entry points.
Ultimately, this hack isn't highly effective and would require constant maintenance. Also, if you're dealing with an infestation, it's best to hire a professional exterminator.
