What's The Difference Between Percale And Sateen Sheets?
By MASIE O'TOOLE
Sleep is one of the best things you can do for your body, so it’s important to choose the right sheets to help you fall asleep. Two of the most popular sheets are percale and sateen, and it can be difficult to tell the difference between the two.
Percale refers to how the sheet is woven with a simple over-under pattern, and they are typically made from cotton or cotton blends with a stiffer feel. Percale is lightweight and breathable, but it isn’t as soft as sateen and tends to wrinkle more.
Sateen sheets are also made of cotton or cotton blends but have a more complex weave, resulting in a slightly shiny, smooth finish that mimics satin. However, they trap more heat and are slightly less durable than percale.
