Where
To Plant Hydrangeas For Optimal Growth
By BRENDA LETELLIER
Hydrangeas thrive best in locations that offer a balanced mix of sunshine and shade, ideally with morning sun exposure and sheltered afternoons.
For optimal growth, plant them on the north or south ends of your property.
If you live in a northern area, the east side may offer an excellent
balance of light.
However, avoid the west side, as intense afternoon sun can deplete their energy. Also, use pergolas, trellises, larger plants, or shade cloths to provide them with afternoon shade.
To ensure ample air circulation and prevent diseases, space hydrangeas 3 to 10 feet apart, depending on the variety and anticipated
maturity size.
