Why Chip And Joanna Gaines Are Putting Their Waco Castle Up
For Auction
By KIRSTIE BINGHAM
Fans of “Fixer Upper: The Castle” were shocked that Chip and Joanna Gaines were auctioning the property, but Chip told Entertainment Tonight, “The reality is we need to sell it.”
Putting a house up for auction suggests it's in poor shape, but viewers know this historic landmark was renovated to a high standard. It was appraised at $1.7 million in 2023.
It’s so unique that it’s hard to evaluate. “The castle is historic and it also has been [...] renovated,” Laura Brady of Concierge Auctions, who’s part of the auction, told People.
“It's going to be worth what the highest bidder is willing to bid,” Brady stated. The castle is listed by Magnolia Realty for $2.9 million and bidding runs from July 20 to July 27.
Although renovating this property was a longtime dream for the Gaines, they explained that they wanted to make Cottonland Castle “a well-loved home once again.”
The buyer would need a large family to fill such a huge house. With more than 6,000 square feet of space, it has four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, including a marble spa bath.
It also boasts a conservatory, a dining room, a library, seven fireplaces, two kitchens, and a butler's pantry, with antique windows and crown moldings typical of its heritage.
