Society garlic gets its name from the distinctive garlicky scent it emits. It's an exceptional choice for groundcover due to its combination of beauty, hardiness, and practicality.
With its gray-green, frond-like leaves and star-shaped blooms in lavender, pink, or white — both of which are edible — society garlic makes an attractive addition to
any landscape.
It spreads rapidly yet controllably, effectively covering ground without becoming invasive, making it ideal for stabilizing loose banks and slopes and defining garden borders.
Society garlic is also remarkably hardy, thriving in various soil types and tolerating drought, salt, and even harsh conditions typical of xeriscape gardens or coastal locations.
This low-maintenance, beginner-friendly plant flourishes in sunny spots, blooming from late spring to late fall, and attracts bees, butterflies, and
other pollinators.
Additionally, it's pest-resistant, deterring common nuisances like deer, gophers, and sweet-potato whiteflies. However, society garlic isn't suitable for high-traffic areas.
