Why The Proper Spacing Between Your Toilet And Shower Matters
By ROBYN HUNT
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) states that the minimum distance from outside the toilet to the nearest plumbing fixture should be at least
15 inches.
This is supposed to be enough space to allow a plumber to be able to squeeze behind the toilet to work. It also provides you with more room to relax and feel most comfortable.
Moreover, if there’s only the bare minimum of space on either side of the toilet, it will be tough to clean the area, allowing bacteria, mold, and mildew to become a real problem.
Building codes are updated every three years, so if you’re planning on remodeling your bathroom, make sure you’re following the latest guidelines for optimal safety and comfort.
