Why Wrapping Your Bird Feeder With Aluminum Foil Is A Good Idea
By CHRISTY RAE AMMONS
Wrapping your bird feeder in aluminum foil can be a surprisingly effective way to keep hummingbird nectar from getting too hot and spoiling during the scorching summer months.
The foil's reflective surface helps bounce off heat and light, thus maintaining a cooler temperature that can prevent the nectar from fermenting or harboring bacteria and mold.
To implement this hack, simply tear a piece of foil and wrap it around the feeder's tube where the nectar is stored. Crumpling the foil can improve its insulating effect.
While aluminum foil can help delay nectar spoilage, it's still crucial to change the nectar frequently and clean the feeders regularly, especially during sweltering weather.
