Why You Should Avoid Painting Wooden Bathroom Cabinets At
All Costs
By JESSICA DANIELS
Bathrooms experience extreme fluctuations in humidity, which negatively affect painted wood, so you shouldn’t paint over wooden bathroom cabinets when renovating.
By itself, paint is fine to use in a bathroom, as is wood. Unfortunately, when fluctuating humidity causes wood to expand and contract, the paint will peel and crack.
Unlike paint, which sits on top of your wood items, stains are absorbed into the wood. This means that the stain expands or contracts along with the wood.
Consequently, stain is the optimal choice for any wooden items that are going in your bathroom — it’s versatile and comes in a wide variety of colors.
