Why You Should Be Using Hydrogen Peroxide In Your Cucumber Garden
By BRI AHEARN
A 2008 study from the International Journal of Horticultural Science found hydrogen peroxide effectively combats Podoshaera fusca fungus, which causes powdery mildew in cucumbers.
The researchers also observed that hydrogen peroxide reduced disease severity from around 90% to just 12%, resulting in healthier plants, improved growth, and earlier harvests.
YouTuber Gary Pilarchik, aka The Rusted Garden, advises mixing 4-8 ounces of 3% hydrogen peroxide with 1 gallon of water and spraying it on your cucumber plants every seven days.
The aforementioned study recommended spraying this solution three times on new plants — once after transplanting and then twice more over the following
two weeks.
These treatments help prevent the spread of powdery mildew, which often appears on older leaves and can cause yellowing, leaf drop and ultimately plant death if left unaddressed.
