Why You Should Consider Adding Epsom Salt To Your Christmas Cactus
By CHRISTY RAE AMMONS
Christmas cacti are succulents native to Brazilian rainforests that need more water and magnesium to survive compared with other houseplants. To ensure they thrive, use Epsom salt.
If the plant is wilting but you're sure it's getting adequate sunlight and water, it could be lacking magnesium. A change in the color may also indicate deficiency in magnesium.
Christmas cacti can sometimes turn a reddish or purplish color when they're not receiving proper nutrients. So, you may need to fertilize them with Epsom salt a little more.
However, before adding Epsom salt, test the soil. Some potting soils are already rich in magnesium, and adding more could be harmful to your succulents.
