Why You Should Put Spray Paint In Hot Water Before Painting
By MADISEN SWENSON
Paint tends to separate over time, resulting in an uneven mixture. While spray paint cans contain a ball bearing to assist with mixing, merely shaking the cans isn't
always enough.
The paint inside the can needs to be slightly warm for optimal mixing and application. Much like how warm ingredients blend more easily in cooking, the same principle applies here.
To safely warm the can, submerge it in water that is hot to the touch, but not scalding. Let the can sit in the water for a few minutes, periodically turning it to ensure even heating.
Give the can a good shake to ensure the paint mixes well, resulting in smooth, even coats. Should the can cool down while in use, reheat it to maintain the
paint's consistency.
