Yes, Some People Like To Let Purslane Grow In Their Yard. Here's Why
By JENNY LYNCH
Characterized by thick red stems and tiny green leaves, purslane is often considered a pesky weed. However, some people let it grow in their yards due to its numerous benefits.
This plant is a nutritional powerhouse. As per a 2014 study published in the Scientific World Journal, it contains more essential omega-3 fatty acids than any other leafy green.
Purslane also boasts seven times more alpha-tocopherol than spinach, a form of vitamin E that prevents blood clots, reduces free radical cell damage, and boosts the immune system.
Moreover, its leaves are used for culinary purposes. Purslane makes excellent chicken feed, providing nutrients to the birds that are then passed on to humans through their eggs.
Additionally, some gardeners prefer to cultivate the more attractive variety of purslane, Portulaca grandiflora, which is known for its abundance of brightly colored flowers.
