When cleaning the toilet seat, it’s easy to miss key areas that can lead to a build-up of grime over time. Most people don’t know this, but in a viral TikTok video, it was revealed that the hinges of your toilet seat can actually pop up to remove the seat while cleaning — here’s how to use this hack to keep your toilet in pristine condition.
With the lid closed, start by grabbing the hinges from the top, and carefully pull up on the covering. The hinges should fold back, revealing the openings where they attach to the toilet, and then pull the seat away from the back of the toilet to allow enough space for cleaning.
Not all toilet seats are the same, so yours may not snap off and on. Check underneath your seat to see if its hinges are attached by two winged nuts or bolts, and unscrew them with a screwdriver or ⅝-inch socket wrench.
