Unsellable Houses' Lyndsay Lamb Reveals The Perfect Front Door Paint Color
Alongside her twin sister Leslie Davis, Lyndsay Lamb has transformed many homes from unsellable to sellable on HGTV's "Unsellable Houses." She has chosen plenty of paint shades over the years, but one that stands out is "Urbane Bronze" by Sherwin-Williams. In Season 4, Episode 4 of "Unsellable Houses," Lamb chose this color to create the perfect paint finish for a front door. Described as a "brownish gray," this calming shade will make guests feel welcomed the moment they step up to your door.
Lamb has long been a fan of the Sherwin-Williams 2021 Color Of The Year. In a blog post about how to make your home more appealing to buyers, she shared, "This color is one of my absolute favorites! I used this color in my design center, and one of our agents even loved this color so much she painted the exterior of her house this color too! At the base Urbane Bronze is a deep gray, but with bronze and brown undertones. This gives the paint a warm undertone with a metallic finish."
A front door can make a big first impression for buyers
Your front door is what people will see first when they come to your home. You may love bold and bright colors, but interested buyers could be immediately put off — and a front door is more important than you might think when it comes to marketability. Data from 2023 showed that those who bought a new front door recouped almost 75% of what they spent on it in resale value. If you can't buy a new front door, a fresh coat of paint can have a similar revitalizing effect. As mentioned by Lyndsay Lamb in the above blog post, white and gray paint shades have been proven to entice buyers more.
Using easily palatable neutrals allows buyers to place themselves in a home instantly rather than needing to put in any extra effort. Painting your front door an unconventional color is fine when you live in it, but when you're selling, revert to neutrals. While white is a safe choice for your front door, sometimes a color that still reads as safe but has a bit of character, like "Urbane Bronze," is the best option. As it is a darker color, we recommend using this color in a home with a white exterior like Lamb and Davis did in Season 4, Episode 4 of "Unsellable Houses."
