Vintage Goods And Furniture Rehabbing, Cell Phone Photography, Simple Homemade Meals
- Interesting architecture, old buildings, and things with a history have always fascinated Kim. So, it wasn't a surprise when she opened a vintage goods store eight years ago that featured a variety of handcrafted items and unique finds. It was during those five years of business that Kim challenged herself to become a pro at turning homely or discarded furniture into sought after pieces for home and office. And although Kim had been writing for publications for over 20 years at that point, her newfound love of furniture rehabbing ignited an interest in writing about home and décor topics. Her articles have been featured in Michigan Home and Lifestyle magazine regularly for the past several years. As for the store, Kim closed its doors, but continues furniture flipping and antique picking as a hobby and side gig.
- When she isn't bargain-hunting for fix-and-flip items, Kim heads out with her cell phone to capture fun images. She loves to photograph historic buildings, rustic barns, and nature. But she likes to mix things up, so her most recent projects include high school senior photo sessions and classy boudoir (not together though).
- All of that writing, antique picking, furniture flipping, and photo-shooting can make a gal hungry. So, another favorite thing for Kim is to create quick and easy meals that often focus on low sodium and healthy ingredients. And, of course, she takes photos of these masterpieces as well.
Experience
Kim's writing career began in high school when she wrote and won awards for the school newspaper. She pursued writing after graduation by helping to establish the student newspaper at Washtenaw Community College, where she worked her way up to become editor and administrator. Under her leadership, the newspaper earned more than 40 awards from the Michigan Press Association and Michigan Community College Press Association. Kim currently writes for Michigan Home and Lifestyle magazine as well as Women2 Women magazine. Her work has appeared in The Detroit News, The Engravers Journal, multiple newspapers, magazines, military publications, and trade journals — online and in print. She also works as a virtual assistant and social media coordinator for Joanna Shakti, an internationally celebrated relationship expert.
Education
Kim earned her associate's degree in general studies from Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, MI. Her major was criminal justice. She also has a bachelor's degree in business administration - organizational leadership from Cleary University in Howell, MI. She graduated summa cum laude and with academic accolades.
