A Bit Of Salt Is All You Need For A Longer-Burning Candle

You've probably heard that cutting down your candle's wick to ¼ of an inch can help it burn longer. You may have also heard that placing your candle in the freezer will lengthen its lifespan, as the cold temperature will cause it to burn slower. There's also another hack that will make your candles burn for a longer duration, and it involves salt. Basically, all you need to do is mix together the melted wax of your candle with a dash of table salt.

To do this, first, allow your candle to burn for a few minutes so that some of the wax melts into a puddle. Then, blow out the flames and immediately sprinkle on a pinch of salt. To make sure the wax and the salt are fully combined, use a toothpick or a needle to mix them together. Finally, allow the melted wax to air dry like normal before lighting the candle. Some believe that this can almost double the burn time, which would save you money and keep your home smelling amazing.

Why does this hack work?

While this simple hack may seem too good to be true, many claim that it does actually work. This is because salt makes the wax melt slower by raising its melting point, which allows the candle to burn longer. Some also believe that salt doesn't burn as easily as wax and therefore keeps it away from the hot flame, which also has the same effect.

However, the only way this hack can be beneficial to you is if you use the correct amount of table salt. You should only use a pinch because if you use too much, it may make the candle difficult to light or may make the flame appear less bright. Another way to limit the amount of salt you use is by grinding it up into a very fine powder, then mixing it into the water and pouring this mixture on the hot wax. The water will evaporate and leave the tiny granules of salt inside the wax.

Another way to use salt for a longer burn time

There's also another way to make your candle burn longer with salt, and it involves coating the waxy exterior with this ingredient. You'll only be able to do this with candles that aren't inside a container, as the salt needs to be able to touch all sides of the wax. To do this, fill a large bowl with 2 cups of water and add 2 tablespoons of salt. Mix this together and then add your candle, allowing it to soak for about one day.

Once you remove the candle, allow it to air dry completely before trying to light it. You'll find that the next time the candle is lit, the wax won't drip down the sides as it normally would. Instead, it will all stay contained at the top in a puddle and will take longer to melt down. This is because the outside of the candle will be covered in a thin coating of salt, which will prolong the burn time.
