The Cleaning Tool That'll Make Outdoor Furniture Look New Again

It's always a huge letdown to head outside, hoping to enjoy your deck or patio space, only to find that your outdoor furniture is filthy. It can easily become covered with a layer of mold, grime, and debris left there by the elements. Thankfully, there's a quick and easy way to remove all that dirt, and it comes from Mr. Clean. The company's versatile Magic Erasers are a powerhouse tool for all sorts of cleaning projects both inside and outside the house.

It's amazing how much filth can pile up on your outdoor furniture even after only a few days, and it's not always possible or convenient to pull out a bucket of soapy water and a regular sponge to scour everything down. In most cases, we want to use our tables and chairs without having to scrub them off. Therefore, a product that we can use to simply wipe down our furniture without creating a mess is preferred, and the Magic Eraser does just that.

Quickly wipe down your outdoor furniture

All it takes to get outdoor chairs and tables looking good as new is a pass with a Magic Eraser sponge. The Eraser should erase all sorts of marks, dirt, and other stains from a bevy of different surfaces. From walls to sinks to leather shoes, they can be used to clean and brighten dozens of areas.

To clean outdoor furniture, simply wipe the pieces down with a Magic Eraser sponge. For best results, use the Extra Durable Magic Eraser. Wet the sponge thoroughly and squeeze out the excess water, then clean off your patio items with the damp material. It even works on outdoor kids' toys too. Please note, however, that the Magic Eraser should be not be used on wooden furniture, as it will ruin the finish of hardwood. For plastics and (non-stainless steel) metals, though, a good wipe down will leave your things looking as fresh as when you first purchased them. Then you're free to enjoy your backyard space as it was intended.

Why Magic Erasers work on outdoor furniture

Patio furniture is meant to withstand harsh weather, so the pieces are most often made out of durable plastic, resin, aluminum, or wrought iron. This makes outdoor furniture the ideal candidate for Magic Erasers. Magic Erasers are actually made out of melamine foam, which is a very fine resin compressed into a sponge form. So when you scrub away dirt and stains, you're essentially sanding them off. Hardy, dense, and solid materials hold up to that delicate sanding process without losing their structural integrity. This is also why the Erasers are not recommended on items with a finish such as stainless steel, marble, glossy paint, or stained wood, which the sanding process would compromise.

After the Magic Eraser has done its work, the sanded particles are absorbed into the foam and the sponge leaves behind small microplastics which are then washed away. While not considered environmentally friendly, the microplastics are nonetheless not considered to pose any great danger to humans. Most believe that Magic Erasers can be safely used on outdoor furniture and disposed of with other plastic waste.
