Don't Skip This Important Last Step When Giving Your Bathroom A Deep Clean

Cleaning the bathroom is never a prized chore, but it certainly is one that has to be done. Naturally, the toilet tends to be high on the list of dreaded areas to clean. Once you scrub it with a toilet brush, the dilemma often becomes what to do with the brush itself. Before you skip this important last step, there is an easy way to sanitize and dry the toilet brush without contaminating the bathroom, and it involves using the toilet seat.

Typically, you should aim to clean your toilet once a week. However, if you or any member of your household has been sick, cleaning it every three or four days is a must to remove germs and bacteria. Each time, be sure to clean all parts of the bowl, including the bend where the water flushes and under the rim where debris can get lodged.

A toilet brush likely bears the brunt of the work in the bathroom. Though you may add chemical sprays and bleach to the toilet, the brush gathers all the particles that are in the toilet. As a result, though your toilet may now be clean, the brush is certainly not.

Let your toilet seat do the work

Out of not knowing what to do with it, many people simply place the brush back in its holder and call it a day. Yet that method leaves the brush sitting in its own pool of filthy water. It is not sanitary and will only allow the water to fester in the brush holder. Then you will have an already dirty brush to clean with next time.

However, there is a simple solution. All you need to do is spray the toilet brush with a good disinfectant to obliterate germs while holding it over the toilet so it doesn't drip on the floor. You can also use hydrogen peroxide. Then, lay it under the toilet seat, allowing the seat to hold the brush up above the water. This will give the brush time to disinfect and dry out. Once dry, the brush will be clean and ready for the next use.

Don't forget the toilet brush holder. Clean that out with disinfectant spray and some paper towels so that after the brush dries, it can be placed in a sparkly clean holder.
