Don't Waste Money On A Duvet Insert Before Trying TikTok's Clever Trick First

When choosing the comfiest option for your bed, you might find yourself debating between a duvet and a comforter. Of course, you could always enjoy the best of both worlds by putting a comforter inside of a duvet cover to act as an insert. It's also an affordable option if you happen to already have an older comforter lying around that you're no longer using on its own. Not only will this save you money, thanks to the fact that you won't have to buy a new duvet cover insert, but it will also act as a soft and puffy interior to fill out the space. If that appeals to you, then you'll definitely want to check out the video from TikTok user @eco.leslie, which takes this idea and perfects it in a way that you'll want to try out for yourself.

Of course, there are a few things you'll need before you get started. Along with a duvet cover and a comforter, grab some ribbon. You'll also need something to affix the ribbon to the comforter, such as a needle and thread or fabric glue. Although you could always make sure that the ribbon matches the comforter, it's not necessary. That's because both will be hidden inside the cover. Granted, you don't want to simply shove the two inside. You need to follow a couple of quick steps in order to make this handy hack work for you and your duvet cover.

Use ribbon before putting a comforter in a duvet cover

While you might assume that you can toss a comforter inside of a duvet cover and end it at that, you'll likely find that the insert ends up becoming lumpy or balled up in one corner. Fortunately, there's a way to avoid this. In TikTok user @eco.leslie's video, she puts ribbon to good use. You can do the same by grabbing a piece of ribbon that is around half an inch thick. Next, cut strips that are each a few inches long. Make them just long enough to reach from one edge of the comforter's corner to the other. When you have your ribbons ready, attach one piece of ribbon to each corner, but only sew or glue it down by the very ends. Leave the middle of the ribbon loose.

You might be wondering why you should bother to take this extra step. However, you'll appreciate the result when you find out that inside of each duvet cover, there's usually a string in each corner. When you insert the comforter into the duvet cover, you can tie the string to the ribbon. This will make sure that the comforter stays in place and won't move around inside the cover. It will also make it easy to remove when necessary by simply untying the strings.
