TikTok's Favorite Handyman Shows How WD-40 Can Prevent Wasting Excess Spray Foam

Spray foam is very helpful to have around the house. This multi-purpose foam can be used for everything from keeping pests out to sealing drafts around doors and windows. When you purchase a can of spray form, you'll notice that it comes with a straw-like applicator. The problem is that spray foam can dry up in the applicator after you spray it if not used for a while. At over $8 a can at Home Depot, spray foam is expensive. So, it's important to find a way to use it all without wasting any.

TikTok's favorite handyman @jmg8tor has found a smart way to keep spray foam from drying up. He shares his genius secret with his more than 2.8 million followers — he uses WD-40. That's right, @jmg8tor utilizes this versatile lubricant to make his spray foam last longer. Several followers point out that there are other solutions, including using acetone to clear out the spray foam. But, WD-40 is cheaper compared to using acetone, and is ultimately the best solution for this job.

How to use WD-40 to keep spray foam from drying up

As @jmg8tor explains in his video, if you don't use the entire can of spray foam at once, the excess foam will dry up in the straw-like spray nozzle and prevent you from spraying the foam. Some of these spray foams come with a reusable lid as some of @jmg8tor's followers mention. However, @jmg8tor explains that these cans are actually not reusable, in spite of what they claim on the packaging. He has used them and they don't work.

To use WD-40, @jmg8tor unscrews the nozzle from the top of the can after he finishes using the foam. Then, he takes a can of WD-40 and sprays the lubricant in the spray foam straw on both sides. Make sure you choose the WD-40 can that comes with a tiny straw. The WD-40 will eat through the spray foam and allow you to use the straw again. According to @jmg8tor, you should also spray a little bit of the WD-40 directly into the nozzle of your spray foam can. Then, take a paper towel and wipe the can.

Other smart uses for WD-40

WD-40 can be used for many different things around the house. @jmg8tor's followers joked in the comments about how versatile WD-40 is. One commenter says "Just when I thought we reached the limit of WD 40 uses!!!" Another person jokes "Also, in an emergency wd-40 can be used for a blood transfusion." So, how can you use WD-40 at home? There are many applications for this spray. It helps keep moisture out of your power tools, making them last longer.
