Epsom Salt Potpourri Is The Answer To A Fresh-Smelling Home

There are many smart ways to use Epsom salt around the house, but perhaps our favorite is combining it with potpourri for a fresher-smelling home you'll never want to leave. So, forget those expensive scented candles and air fresheners that don't last as long as they should. You can make a customizable home fragrance for a fraction of the price — and it'll likely even smell better.

Epsom salt, aka magnesium sulfate, has small, colorless crystals with a wide range of potential health benefits for muscle soreness and inflammation. Since it is a natural remedy, Epsom salt can also be helpful in your lettuce garden as a fertilizer, for soaking your tired feet, or to sprinkle in your bath water for a soothing and relaxing experience. But aromatherapy shouldn't be limited to these things. Combining Epsom salt with essential oils and potpourri can give the rest of your home a consistent fragrance anytime you want to bring a touch of nature to your indoor space.

The best part is that you can tailor the scent with different essential oils alongside a potpourri mix of dried flowers, orange peels, cinnamon sticks, cloves, pumpkin slices, cones, leaves, and more. The fragrance possibilities are unlimited. Plus, Epsom salt can also eliminate any stinky odors in other parts of the house, like the kitchen. How to DIY Epsom salt potpourri

Epsom salt is the base of your potpourri concoction, so grab a bag from a drug or grocery store — the brand doesn't matter. Next, gather some dried flowers, rose petals, dried fruit, or herbs. We love the intoxicating scents of apples, oranges, pine cones, and rosemary, but you pick out the ones you love most. For an extra splash of aroma, find your favorite essential oils, like lavender, peppermint, or eucalyptus, to give the Epsom salt mix a calming and refreshingly fragrant kick.

Now that you have your ingredients, mix equal parts Epsom salt and potpourri in a bowl. Next, add a few drops of essential oils, and stir it all together. Make sure the essential oil touches almost every piece of salt and dried potpourri. Then, pour the potpourri into an airtight container, like a glass jar, and let it sit for at least 24 hours. This helps the Epsom salt absorb all the scents. After 24 hours, spill your fragrant Epsom salt mix into a clear glass bowl or even into sachets to place around your home. For a fragrance boost, shake the Epsom sale potpourri every few days to freshen it up.
