There are plenty of floor lamps on the market that double as shelving and can add allure to your home, but if you're curating a glam aesthetic for your space, you probably know how expensive it can get. However, YouTuber Yoduvh Essentials demonstrates that having a dazzling shelf game doesn't have to come with a huge price tag. In fact, you can DIY a floor lamp with shelves at home that's both stylish and functional with affordable items from Dollar Tree and Amazon, a creative imagination, and a few tools in your toolbox. Whether you need to maximize your storage space in your tiny apartment, or you want to add razzle-dazzle to a room, a DIY shelf can be a functional piece that also allows you to showcase your treasured decor items, as well as your home's unique personality.

For this project, you'll need four Essentials plastic broom handles and three document frames from Dollar Tree, but you can also use mirror or photo frames. Check your local Dollar Tree for note boards like the YouTuber uses, but if you can't find anything, try these NIRMAN Acacia Wood Rectangular Wooden Platters

How to create this DIY lamp shelf

The remaining materials you can get from Amazon: a 12-inch paper lantern; a light socket and lightbulb; contact paper that livens up your elegant decor, such as this Micpolo marble contact paper or metallic gold paper; spray paint that captures your aesthetic; and feather fur trim. For the lighting, you can repurpose a lamp you might have at home. You will also need hot glue or epoxy glue, which is a versatile sealant, as well as screws and a drill.

To start, take out the documents from the frames. Then, build the backbone of your shelf by fastening two broomstick rods to one of the frames with your drill and screws. Attach one of your shelves using screws by placing the shelf on the bottom of your first frame, and then repeat this step with the next two frames and shelves. Angle the last two broom rods at the opposite sides of the shelves so that the tips meet at the top. Next, attach the rods to the shelves as you did with the first two rods. Then, protect your shelves and spray paint the rods a shade that corresponds to your glam aesthetic. If you're using mirrors or photos in the document frames, insert them now.

Next, apply the contact paper to your shelves. Use trim or upcycled curtain rod ends to cover the screws and ridges, or add Christmas ornaments like in the video, to give your shelf a high-end touch. Glue the feather fur trim onto your paper lantern for an elegant look. Finally, insert your lighting inside the lantern and mount it on top of the front-facing rods.

Ways to customize and use your lamp shelf

You can opt out of the lighting portion of this DIY project and use the shelf as it is to accommodate your glam style. Fill the shelves with magazines, tea lights, or gold decorative bowls where you can place your jewelry, or a vanity mirror, all of which capture the glam aesthetic. If you're already using mirrors in the document frames, consider using the shelf as a safe haven for makeup or beauty products. Your DIY shelf can also work in your bathroom to organize your towels, perfumes, bathroom sprays, and other essentials.

Additionally, you can use the shelf as a keepsake area for souvenirs, photos, or other mementos. If you're a plant lover, consider using your new shelf to house your fast-growing succulent plants, and place it near direct sunlight for optimal growth. Be sure to keep the weight of your items in mind, as the shelves may be prone to bending or breaking.
