Jeremiah Brent Reveals The Perfect Color Inspo For A Beautiful Accent Wall
Jeremiah Brent is a big fan of neutral colors, especially beige, and so is his husband, Nate Berkus. That's why when the HGTV stars shared some painting tips that they swear by, they did not hesitate to highlight how nobody could go wrong with choosing beige as an interior color. However, Brent, who owns an eponymous design firm, also knows how to spice things up and take a risk on bold colors when the project requires one or two walls to stand out in a room.
"Who says I don't do color? Red hot for summer. Would you go for a terracotta accent wall?" Brent captioned a photo he shared on Facebook showing a living room with an ornate ceiling and neutral furniture and decor. The "Home Made Simple" host made the room pop by painting two adjacent walls terracotta. As a color, terracotta is effortlessly stylish, thanks to its timeless and earthy tone that sits somewhere between burnt orange, rust, and clay.
Depending on its shade, terracotta can be a bold color, like the one used by Brent. The intense hue enhanced the Mediterranean-style space by giving it a rustic vibe. Meanwhile, Brent also used visible brush strokes on the wall to add texture and warmth to the room. Adding texture is the television personality's go-to decor trick to give homes a welcoming feel. Had Brent used a lighter shade, it would have made the room brighter and more open, but that would have defeated the purpose of having accent walls.
Using terracotta beyond the walls
While accent walls add visual interest and personality to any space, it's not necessary for every room in the house to have one. In fact, this trend should be avoided if you plan to sell your home sometime in the future, since it could hurt the resale value of the property. Nonetheless, if you are still dead set on incorporating terracotta into your home but don't want the color on your walls, you should consider introducing it to your space through other styling features. For instance, you can start small by introducing rusty brown cushions, rugs, or throws in your living room or bedroom. Such accessories can inject the right amount of terracotta warmth into the room without overwhelming the space.
Consider bringing in a terracotta sofa if you want a bigger statement piece in this color. To make this really stand out in the living room, pair it with natural materials, like wood, rattan, and wicker. Having bright walls can further draw attention to the sofa. For the bedroom, an effective way to incorporate the color is by having terracotta bedding. For the kitchen, using terracotta tiles for the backsplash can elevate the style of the cooking area. You can also embrace the beautiful styles of terracotta tiles on your floors in other areas of the home. The earthy tone of the tiles can significantly enhance the aesthetic of any room, and the natural texture can bring more interest to a frequently-overlooked area.
