DIY A Budget-Friendly Wall Sconce Using A Few Dollar Store Finds
Wall sconces are excellent pieces of decor that can provide an upscale look and also add value to your home. They are often used to dress up a wall, add extra lighting, or illuminate wall art. The problem is that, like with many other upgrades, they can be expensive to put in your home. If you want to add a gorgeous sconce on your wall without the high price or any electric work, you can create your own with a simple, budget-friendly DIY home project. This idea involves gluing two cups together, attaching them to a piece of wood, spray painting everything, and adding simple puck lights.
Many of the items required can be purchased from your local dollar store. For instance, you could use the Crafter's Square Wood Dowels, a Craft Wood Plank, and two Pebble Texture Tumblers for $1.25 each from Dollar Tree. If you don't like the texture of these cups, any other sturdy plastic glasses could be used. You'll also need two puck lights; battery-operated ones that can be controlled by a remote would be best so you can turn them on from anywhere. Other chic wall sconces and projects can be made from dollar store finds, so you don't have to limit yourself — the possibilities are endless. How to make this wall sconce
To begin, glue the two cups together at their bases with super glue. Then, cut the wood plank with a saw so it's 7 inches tall and sand it smooth with sandpaper. Cut 2½ inches from the ends of two wooden dowels with shears or a hand saw. Next, mark and drill two holes 1 inch from each edge of your wooden plank, insert the wooden dowels, and use wood glue to secure them. Push the dowels up against your cups and make two dots with a marker so you know where to drill holes for insertion. Drill those holes and secure the dowels with super glue, then secure the push lights inside the cups with strong tape (so they can be removed). Then, use masking tape to create an edge or pattern and spray paint everything. Finally, add a strip of craft paper like the Crafter's Square Gold Glitter Vinyl Paper horizontally between the two cups. Once everything is dry, attach the wood base to your wall with screws or Command strips. You could also use a sawtooth hanger as long as you place a small piece of wood that's the same depth below it, so your sconce is level.
This wall sconce is a beautiful light fixture that can be completed at a budget-friendly price. You can personalize it with your favorite colors, paint a monogram, or add Plastic Diamond Mesh along the top rims for more texture and shimmer. You also don't have to just create wall sconces, as there are plenty of other affordable DIYs you can make with Dollar Tree items for your home.
