Reuse Old Kitchen Tools To DIY A Budget-Friendly Floral Centerpiece

In the springtime, not all budget-friendly home decor has to come from the dollar store. Among crafty DIYers, sometimes the right pieces for a centerpiece are found in reused kitchen items like old bread pans that are cleverly embellished with a few magical wonders from the backyard. The pans plus the flora make for a magical combo, but don't be fooled; it's also very budget-friendly largely because you'll be using mostly repurposed and free raw materials to make it. A standard-sized bread pan creates a vase for the floral elements to sit in. If you have one in your cupboard that you've set aside to throw away, reuse that. Otherwise, it's something you'll find easily in the kitchen aisle of your local junk store.

The pan will be filled with a couple of your small potted plants as well as some moss. The flowers and the moss look really pretty in this setup, but it's the wild and woody bundle of twigs that flank the bread pan and truly make this piece stand out. When wrapped around the old pan, their wildness resembles a bird's nest, a look that's augmented in the display by the addition of some faux speckled bird's eggs from Dycica.

A dollop of hot glue and some twine make the faux eggs hangable too. Because of this, the stylish centerpiece gives off a rather magical, ethereal vibe. Likewise, a little twine binds the ends of the twig bundles together without completely restraining the wildness that makes this centerpiece such a unique way to decorate a table, like crafter @diy_kreativni.

How to repurpose your bread pan to make a chic centerpiece

To create this DIY, you'll work with the bread pan and the bundle of twigs first. You can use any kind of twigs as long as they're long and thin and fairly uniform in size. That said, pussy willows or birch twigs, which is what brooms in the 1800s were made of, would add an extra cool touch. Most importantly, though, the twigs need to be long enough to extend past both ends of the bread pan by about 6 to 8 inches. Sort them into two piles of equal size, which will eventually be tied around the pan with the help of some twine or heavy string. The finished product therefore resembles a bird's nest.

As for the potted flowers in the centerpiece, because you're not taking them out of their plastic store-bought containers, they can be removed from the centerpiece once the occasion is over, if you wish, or swapped out depending on the season. A cozy layer of moss hides the pots, while a smaller twig or two that you stand upright in the plants' soil, plus a few faux eggs that you tie onto the branches, brings spring into sharp focus for this budget-friendly floral centerpiece.

There are plenty of ways to make this arrangement even more original too. If you'd prefer a slightly smaller display, try using mini loaf pans as the vase instead. Miniature fairy houses from the Dollar Tree add a touch of magic to the display. And, if you have blooming forsythia bushes growing in the backyard, weave a few of those branches in with the others you've chosen, with the blossoms still on them, to add some pops of color to the centerpiece.
