Your vinyl flooring has seen it all — shoes, pet paws, suitcase wheels, and heavy furniture that's been dragged across it. Needless to say, it has a few blemishes here and there. One thing you should know about vinyl flooring is that while it's favored for its resilience and ability to withstand a lot of daily wear and tear, it's not impervious to visible damage such as scratches and scuff marks. Wiping it down with floor polish may seem like the easiest way to clean your vinyl flooring to get rid of all the scratches. But there is one all-natural alternative to consider that works just as well: beeswax.

The next time you need to remove those unsightly scratches from your vinyl flooring, consider rubbing this hidden scratch-hiding gem on them to give them the glow-up they're dying for. For this hack, the beeswax will be applied to the blemishes and melted by a heat gun to level it with the rest of the floor. While this method may take an extra step more than the application of your typical furniture polish, it's definitely worth it.

It's also cost-effective, as a pack of Sukh natural beeswax can be purchased for less than $8. In addition, if you don't already have them, you'll need something like the Wagner Spraytech heat gun and a pack of Fonaroll buffing cloths. You can expect to pay around $20 for the heat gun and around $7 for the buffing cloths.

Using beeswax to remove scratching from vinyl flooring and prevention tips

It's worth noting that not all vinyl flooring is created equal. And one common vinyl floor care mistake is failing to review your manufacturer's cleaning and care guide before applying any cleaners or tools. Be sure to always know what's safe to use to clean the floors. Also, before trying this method, do a spot test in an inconspicuous area, such as behind a dresser, just to be on the safe side.

Apply the beeswax bar to the scratches. Then, go over each area for just a few seconds with your heat gun to melt the wax. Be sure to hold the gun at least 2 or 3 inches away from the floor to prevent burns. Next, immediately take your buffing cloth, gently buffing the area you just heated to help fill each abrasion with the melted wax. You can also go over the floor again with a brush mop to help further blend the beeswax into the surface.

Of course, you'll save yourself a lot of time and effort on scratch removal by preventing scratches. One of the best ways to do this is to place felt pads or another soft material on the bottom of your furniture. If you don't have felt, you can also use alternatives like cut-up pieces from a yoga mat or rubber cabinet liner. Also, take note of the type of shoes you wear on the flooring. Hard-soled shoes can cause minor scuffs on vinyl flooring that show up as bigger scratches over time, so wearing shoes with softer soles is ideal.
