The Flooring Choice HGTV's David Bromstad Praises For It's 'Indestructible' Appeal

David Bromstad has been a trusted expert at HGTV for decades, all the way back to when he won the inaugural season of "Design Star." Now, as the host of "My Lottery Dream Home," Bromstad still has his finger on the pulse of interior design trends. He helps people across the country as they search for their ideal house and weigh the benefits of each property. One aspect that should never be overlooked is the home's flooring. And Bromstad has revealed his top choice when it comes to flooring options: he's a fan of luxury vinyl planks.

Luxury vinyl planks, otherwise known as LVP flooring, are made of a vinyl composition. Their construction includes a backing layer, a core, and a wear layer on the surface. The core and the backing layer make up the product's strength and thickness, which gives LVP the strength it needs to perform in the home. The top wear layer is to protect the visual from dents and scratches. (Just remember, because of its wear layer, LVP floors can't be refinished.) The durability of LVP is why Bromstad favors it in modern homes. In Season 16, Episode 9 of "My Lottery Dream Home" (via HGTV), he says, "This is a vinyl planking, which is wonderful. It's indestructible." In addition to being a sturdy floor, LVP exhibits flooring trends that'll be taking over in 2025, including bold patterns and a reliable, resilient format.

LVP flooring is durable and beautiful

With so many different flooring options available, luxury vinyl planks have their own unique set of advantages that set them apart from other categories. LVP is known for being strong and tough, which makes it a great choice for busy households. Lots of LVP options are resistant to water, so spills won't be an issue. This makes LVP a good alternative to hardwood flooring because it can be treated so it will not swell if water touches the surface.

LVP is also less expensive than authentic hardwood, making luxury vinyl planks a better investment. This type of floor is low maintenance and will be easy to clean and take care of over time. Plus, LVP can be customized to fit any design preference, whether it's long and wide planks or a hardwood visual that looks identical to the real thing. LVP comes in a wide range of price points, but the category's wealth of benefits proves that buying premium luxury vinyl plank is a flooring upgrade that is worth the extra cost

As a designer, David Bromstad appreciates the visual benefits of LVP. He suggests carrying LVP through as much of the house as possible if you have an open floor plan. According to Bromstad, a continuous floor throughout will make the space feel cohesive and effortlessly appear bigger. This will give LVP the proper place to shine, as multiple flooring designs and formats in the same space would make a room feel disjointed.
