Don't Throw Out Old Flowers - Use Them To Give Your Home An Amazing Scent
Flowers add a lot of vibrant color and fragrant scents in your garden and around the house as a bouquet. Once the florals near the end of their lives, don't toss the dead or wilting flowers. Instead, dry the flower petals and reuse them in scented sachets to spread a lovely fragrance around the house. For most florals, the petals produce seven to 10 different oils that become the flower's scent, and some blooms use smell to attract bees and butterflies to pollinate the bloom.
And now, the flower can find new life when you use that aroma in sachets around your house as a non-toxic closet freshener that will keep your space and clothes smelling clean. All you need are those old flower petals, a pouch made from cotton or another material, a ribbon or another type of clasp, and any stickers, doily pieces, or beads to add on as decorations.
How to make scented sachets out of old flower petals
The first step is to let your florals reach the end of their life cycle. Don't throw them out; collect the petals. From here, you have the choice to dry them naturally, which takes about a week, or speed up the process by preserving the flower petals with the convenience of a microwave. Grab a microwave-safe container, fill it with silica gel, place the petals inside, and pour more gel on top. The silica will help absorb the petals' moisture. Microwave at one to two minute intervals and stop once the flower petals feel dry. Once they do, put a partial cover on the container and let it sit for 24 hours.
When the petals are done, place them inside a cotton, mesh, or burlap sachet. A sock, tea bag, or handkerchief can also work. Tie it closed, either with a drawstring or a ribbon. Adorn your freshener with any beads, floral stickers, or doily pieces to customize it and match it to your decor. Place it where you need a floral scent in your home.
