HGTV Star Christina Haack's Top Choice For Cabinet & Drawer Pulls
One thing to never overlook in any kitchen redesign is the details. From window trimmings to drawer organizers, the finer details of a kitchen remodel can have a huge impact on the look and feel of the space. One such detail you should be intentional about is the cabinet hardware. Cabinet hardware can make or break your cabinet design, offering a sleek, modern aesthetic or a cozy, vintage vibe, depending on the finish and style you choose. Further, the right cabinet and drawer pulls will affect the functionality of your space, so you'll want something that not only looks stylish but also provides ease when working in the kitchen. That's why some designers prefer to use handles instead of knobs for cabinet hardware.
HGTV design star Christina Haack notes the importance of picking the right drawer pulls for your space. In an episode from her show, "Christina on the Coast," Haack worked with a couple, Ruby and Berto, to redesign their cramped kitchen into a gorgeous entertainment space. When the time came to choose drawer and cabinet pulls for the bar and dining area, Haack asked the couple to select either knobs or handles. After weighing the decision, they shared that they prefer handles over knobs, to which Haack agreed, saying that handles appear much more elegant. Haack uses handles rather than knobs in many of her kitchen designs. So, if you're wondering whether handles or knobs are right for your kitchen cabinets, here is what Christina Haack favors.
Why you should choose pulls over knobs for your cabinets
When selecting cabinet and drawer pulls for your kitchen, Haack prefers handles instead of knobs. As shown in the HGTV "Best Design Reveals" for Haack's show, "Christina on the Coast," many of the redesigned kitchens feature handles on the cabinets. While many handles Haack chooses are either brass or black, some designs feature a combination of different finishes for added appeal. Mixing finishes is a cabinet hardware trend that can give your kitchen an upgrade on a budget. In one of her kitchen redesigns, she utilizes brass handles on sage green kitchen island cabinets. This is then paired with all-black pulls on white cabinetry to create a mix-and-match aesthetic.
When choosing a finish, Haack suggests opting for brass pulls if you're looking to add some more glam to the space. However, knobs aren't necessarily a dated kitchen hardware trend that is out. In a Season 5 remodel for her parents, for example, Haack used knobs on the upper cabinets and handles on the lower ones. Since the upper and lower cabinets are two-tone, Haack emphasized this striking aesthetic by using different types of hardware. Additionally, all of the larger appliances, from the stove to the fridge to the dishwasher, feature brass handles that match the cabinet hardware. While knobs may not be outdated, it's clear Haack's top choice is handles.
