If you're not careful, you may wake up one day and find your bathroom looks something like a crime scene — only the culprits are your grooming products and toiletries. During a morning self-care routine, it's common to scramble for hair products, leave lotions and hair brushes in various places, and toss Q-tips around on the bathroom counter. It happens to the best of us. But there is hope; you can keep your bathroom clutter-free with a few organization tips. One easy way to do this is by upcycling one of your garden's tomato cages into your very own budget-friendly bathroom organizer. A quick customization of the tomato cage, coupled with a hanging wire planter basket from Dollar Tree and a plastic bowl insert, gives you a simple new stand to house several bathroom essentials.
If you don't have a garden or a tomato cage already, no worries. You can find one at Walmart for about $3. They're also available in packs of 4 for $16 online. A few other things needed for this project include a pair of Grenpro wire bolt cutters and a can of black Krylon spray paint, both of which you can buy for $7 each.
The plastic bowl inserts are available online in packs of four for $15, though you can probably find them for cheaper at your local home goods or grocery store. However, just ensure that the bowls can comfortably sit in the 10-inch-wide planter basket. Whether your bathroom is large or small, maximizing storage space with curated storage essentials like this 2-tiered stand can be a significant step towards achieving the level of organization you need.
Steps to turn a tomato cage into a bathroom organizer with planter baskets
It's best to work on this bathroom storage hack project outdoors. If working on this indoors, just be sure to do it in a well-ventilated area and place a newspaper on the floor before painting. Start by removing the legs of the tomato cage with your bolt cutter. Turn the tomato cage upside down so that the legs are facing up.
Cut the legs off right at the tomato cage's first tier (the smallest circle). Next, prepare your painting area and then go over the cage with the spray paint. Once the paint dries, place one wire planter basket on the cage's first tier, attaching the hooks to the cage's rim. Do this for the second tier. Then, add your plastic insert bowls to both tiers.
You can also add labels to the plastic bowl inserts on the cage for more organization. Also, don't feel limited to black paint; consider painting the cage any color that complements your bathroom's aesthetic. Interesting colors that blend easily with a lot of decor styles include white and chrome. The plastic bowls can also be replaced with round woven baskets if you prefer a more homespun look. Just be sure to get the measurements of these baskets first. You can level-up this organizer by placing loose grooming products such as cotton balls, hair ties, and lip balm inside smaller Jutieuo storage containers and then adding them to the plastic inserts. A few S-hooks attached to the rim of the cage can also be a convenient place to hang shower caps, loofahs, and hair ties.
