The Color Pairing That Makes Gray Feel Instantly Luxurious
Whether you are a big fan of using gray in your home interior or you're just considering giving this color a try, decorating with and around it can be daunting. Gray can be somewhat stark if not done properly, and while it can also come across as very stylish, it will create a sterile environment without contrast. However, you can instantly transform bleak, gray rooms into luxurious, inviting spaces that will really pop just by introducing jewel tones. By pairing these saturated pops of color with your gray backdrop, you can enhance your space with a bold and dramatic finish that adds more personality and warmth to this cool palette. You don't have to use much of these either; just a few touches will really elevate your rooms.
Using contrast to complement your gray decor will create dimension. For example, emerald green would pair well with true or cool gray, as these contain green in the undertones. By using a rich, saturated velvet green furnishing, you could really pull through both colors and make the whole room flow while also getting the benefit of texture from the fabric. The same goes for blue, so using a sapphire jewel tone would pair really nicely and could be a good window treatment and throw pillow combination. If you prefer a warmer gray, these tend to have pink or brown undertones, so you could potentially introduce a ruby shade to add that contrast that will make the room feel so stylish. While it's easy to use a serene color that pairs excellently with gray, this bolder option could be the best way to make your home pop.
Layer your palettes
There are so many ways to incorporate jewel tones into your gray spaces. If you prefer a more understated or minimalistic style, then simply adding one or two pops of jewel tone accents will be more than enough to pull through the inviting air you want. This can be a piece of furniture and a rug or window treatment, or it can be two different pieces of furniture spaced out across the room or even a few throw pillows and a wall hanging. Every shade of gray has different undertones, so keep these in mind when choosing your jewel tone.
On the other hand, if you prefer a more eclectic style, you could always add more jewel toned accents throughout the room, using several pieces of furniture in various bold shades or covering gray upholstery with lots of jewel hued throws. The key word here is layering: use gray as your base colors for walls and even your floors (there are plenty of ways to revamp your gray wood floors without replacing them, by the way). Cover up dated feeling gray wood flooring with a rug that features jewel tones to layer the colors into the room. For a big statement, use a larger piece of furniture as your jewel toned addition for a bold, dramatic, stylish finish.
