Costco's Popular Oversized Chair Is Going Viral But Is It Really Worth The Hype?

If you want large and discounted furniture, Costco is a great place to start. But just because you can get something for a cheaper price doesn't mean you should. Now this isn't the only viral chair to come from Costco, but it is one of the newest. If you've been eyeing the Thomasville Wills Fabric Oversized Chair and Ottoman, it's definitely worth doing some research to decide whether it's something you should purchase or pass. Because while it has maintained a 4.7-star average rating on Costco's website, that doesn't mean it's beyond improvement. For instance, it's great for lounging. On the downside, it can be a pain to keep clean.

Sticking to the facts, this is a large chair, measuring 64 inches across — about the size of a full-sized loveseat. It has a plush, furry, ribbed fabric that also comes with the addition of a large storage ottoman. It is currently listed at $700, which is a bit high but not excessive.

Pros for purchasing

If you want big, comfy, and fluffy, this lounge chair pretty much fits the bill. Super soft polyester fabric in a corduroy weave gives it a fur-like feeling that is extra snuggly on chilly nights. It is also extra wide, meaning you won't feel cramped if you share it — or you can hog it for yourself if you want to spread out. The ottoman has a hinged top that will stay open on its own, allowing you to effortlessly access the storage inside. Plus, the set comes with two throw pillows that provide additional support should you need it.

Besides the ratings being high, many customers left glowing reviews. One reviewer wrote, "After using it for a week, I can confidently say: BUY THIS CHAIR! It's incredibly comfortable, easily fits two people, and feels so soft. The matching storage ottoman makes it an even better deal. If you're on the fence, go for it — you won't regret it!" The general consensus in most positive reviews is how comfortable the chair is. And while the furry fabric is super soft to the touch, the cushions are on the firmer side, which provides you with more support instead of feeling like you're sinking into oblivion. No wonder Thomasville is one of Costco's most reliable furniture brands that are worth buying.

Cons worth considering

While some people loved the tactile upholstery, not everyone was a fan. One customer noted that it was so slippery they had difficulty sitting upright and kept sliding into a reclining position. Faux fur materials like this are also not always the best if you're looking for longevity. They can get matted quite easily, especially when they are not removable and washable. Add kids, pets, and sticky movie snacks to the mix, and you've got a recipe for disaster. The cushioning also posed a problem for some, with one customer stating, "I was hoping for a cloud-like feeling."

The price — though not outrageous — does come with the downside of being significantly cheaper if purchased in-store. Actually, about $200 cheaper. While being able to snag it at a lower price is great, there are some complications that could prevent you from doing so. First of all, it may not be available at your local store. But even if it is, you will need both a vehicle large enough to fit the boxes and the strength to load and unload them — or some strong friends with a truck. If you're not concerned about the price, however, Costco does deliver bulky furniture to your door
