Having extra counter space in the kitchen is something most of us could use. It's beneficial for meal prepping, dish drying, and it gives you a place to enjoy a quick bite to eat. But, if room is limited, you can always get creative. One way is to craft a beautiful two-tiered basket out of budget-friendly materials. With this easy DIY, you can help clear your counters and organize your kitchen at the same time.

Two-tiered wicker baskets aren't always cheap when you purchase them from a regular store. Fortunately, you can save some money by heading to the thrift shop instead. Simply grab two round wicker baskets and a candle stick holder, which is the piece that connects them together. While the baskets can be any design you like, one of them must be smaller than the other to be the top layer. Also, if you can only find ones with handles, that's okay; you can always cut them off. When buying your materials, consider how you want to use the two-tiered basket. The purpose might help you determine the type of baskets you want. One popular idea is using it for fruit storage since it makes for a lovely display. However, it's a versatile piece that could also hold snacks, bread items, or rolled cutlery.

How to create a gorgeous two-tiered basket

Start by getting your baskets all cleaned up with a soft, wet rag. Then, using a strong adhesive such as Gorilla Glue, attach the bottom of the candle stick holder to the inside of the larger basket. Now, add more glue to the top of the candle holder and set the smaller basket on top. That's it; it's now the perfect home décor piece that can utilize vertical space in a small kitchen! Consider making multiple versions to clean up your kitchen countertops even more.

If you're able to purchase everything secondhand, it shouldn't cost more than $10. You might also be able to find supplies at Dollar Tree, such as its black iron candle holder or round tin cake pans. Keep in mind, though, that these Dollar Tree pieces likely aren't as sturdy or stylish as using wicker baskets and a candle holder from a thrift shop. But, if you're willing to decorate them or just want to save a couple more bucks, it could definitely be a brilliant Dollar Tree organization hack.

If you want to make your two-tiered basket even more sturdy and chic, add stained pieces of wood to the baskets. Cut the wood so it's the exact size of the bottoms of the baskets on the outside and attach with glue. Instead of a candle stick holder, use a thick wooden spindle and use screws to combine them. It looks even fancier while still keeping those kitchen counters clear.
