The Simple Trick To Hang Backyard Lights With Elevated Style
Entertaining friends and family in your backyard during the summertime brings your outdoor space to life. Lighting is an outdoor entertaining essential, and you'll want to make sure you create a cozy ambience. Solar string lights are a popular choice for lots of people because they give off a lovely warm glow without being too glaring. You can also hang them to light specific areas, such as an outdoor table or a chilled out seating area. However, how do you hang outdoor string lights in a functional way that also exudes style?
It can be hard to rely on fence posts or trees to hang your solar string lights. Instead, there's a clever trick that will not only effectively hang your backyard lights, but it'll add a sense of style to your outdoor space, too. This DIY hack simply uses copper piping to create angled hangers to easily hang your string lights in your yard. All you're going to need is some copper piping, but how much you require is entirely dependant on how high you want your lights to be. You'll also need a handful of elbow copper joints to create the "hooks," and lastly some copper pipe straps and screws to secure your piping.
How to use copper pipe to hang backyard lights
Take a small length of copper pipe that will sit vertically on your fence post and secure it by placing a copper strap over the top of it and screwing it into place. Next, use an elbow copper joint to attach the next length of copper pipe, which will angle it away from the fence. Install two angled elbow joints on the end of the copper pipe to create a "hook." You can then easily thread your string lights through the hook with no other materials needed.
If you haven't got a full height fence but still want to create these copper pipe hangers, you can easily do so. Take a long length of copper pipe at the desired height you'd like your lights to hang from, secure it with copper straps as described previously, but because the pipe is taller, you'll want to use some friction tape on the bottom of each pipe to make sure it's fully secured.
Don't be restricted by the current length of your solar string lights when it comes to hanging them; you can simply customize the length yourself. Snip the ends of your string lights, making sure not to damage the wires. You will then have exposed wires at either end — use wire strippers to carefully pull back the insulation if needed. This means you can now easily join the wires together and make safe by wrapping electrical tape around them.
