Upholster A Bedframe With Your Favorite Tablecloth Using A Simple DIY
Tablecloths have all kinds of alternative uses in and around your home. You can upcycle old ones into curtains, decorative bed covers, clothing, pillowcases, and more. However, upholstering your bed frame and headboard is a tablecloth hack that will elevate your bedroom in a way you didn't expect. With nothing more than an old tablecloth, a pair of fabric scissors, and a staple gun, you can completely transform the look of your bed.
This simple DIY is an affordable and fun way to elevate even the most basic bed frames. You may already have a beautiful tablecloth lying around, and if not, there are almost always vintage ones at the thrift store for cheap. With so many possibilities as far as texture, pattern, and color, tablecloths make an excellent upholstery fabric. If you've been dreaming about a statement headboard as your bedroom's accent piece, then it's time to bust out your stapler and scissors.
How to attach a tablecloth to your bedframe and headboard
Before you begin, measure your fabric to ensure you'll have enough to complete this project. If you're working with a king-sized bed, for example, you will need two 60-inch by 102-inch tablecloths. Once you have the appropriate materials, remove your mattress, box spring, or bed slats, and detach your headboard from the frame. Next, cut out five panels of fabric — one to cover each side of the bed frame and a larger one to cover your headboard. If your headboard is not already cushioned, you might want to staple a piece of foam to it to truly get the upholstered look.
Next, wrap your headboard in the tablecloth and steam out any wrinkles. Then, attach it with staples along the backside, using the frame as your guide. For the corners, fold them in tightly like a gift and secure with staples. If you have excess fabric, go ahead and trim that off now. Follow the same steps for each side of your bed frame as well. Now, if your headboard has curved corners, the present-folding technique may not work. Instead, trim off your excess fabric first, then pull the remaining fabric tight around the corners and staple as you go. If this is your first time, you may even need to pull out a staple or two and try again, but eventually, you will get a clean-looking corner. Now you're prepared to give any room a sleek and modern upgrade with this chic bed frame DIY.
